Great Is His Faithfulness by Miriam
Great Is His Faithfulness by Miriam
“Great is his faithfulness;his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:23 (NLT)
I’ve been a Christian — a follower of Jesus — for a long time. Throughout my walk with Him there have been some really great moments, some really hard ones, and ordinary days in between. But through them all, one thing has always been true — God has been and is faithful.
The writer of Lamentations (one of those Old Testament books in the Bible that are sometimes are to find) found himself in a place where he had to purposefully remind himself of God’s faithfulness. He and his people, the Israelites, were living in another country away from their homeland because of their disobedience to the Lord.
In Lamentations 3:19-24 he says:
The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”
I don’t know what you are going through right now. In today’s culture we often think everyone has it all together because we are watching their “highlight reel” on social media. In actuality, some of those very people are experiencing difficulties. Sometimes the difficulties we experience are because of disobedience — sin — like the Israelites, but sometimes it isn’t. If there is sin in your life causing these difficult times, stop and confess that sin to the Lord and ask Him to forgive you. From that point on, seek to walk in obedience. This doesn’t mean we still won’t have difficulties or hard times — as long as we are in the world, we will (John 16:33) — but God is faithful to help us in those times.
Sometimes the difficulties we experience are because we live in a fallen world. God is still faithful in those moments, too. The writer of Lamentations had to purposely remind himself of God’s faithfulness and choose to trust Him in the midst of his circumstances. He chose to place His hope in the Lord and Him alone. Will you do that today?
