Eye to Eye by Laura

“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness” (I Peter 2:24).

The Cross…an instrument of death is where we see with the eye of faith, a tree of life.  Jesus died on the cross paying with His own blood for our sin, so that we might not only live to righteousness but die to sin.  Paul states in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”  Living to righteousness is our new way of living by faith in Christ who now lives in us in the person of the Holy Spirit.  He lives through us to bring Himself glory as we surrender to Him.  This is the new and living way the writer of Hebrews speaks of.  In order to live to righteousness, we must die to sin. Paul describes this death at the beginning of the verse…”I have been crucified with Christ”.  “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross”.  He took our place!  He “gave Himself for me.” He gave Himself for you.  There must be a crucifixion (death) before there can be a resurrection (life).  “So that” – the purpose of His crucifixion is that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.

While in Israel several years ago, I learned that the Cross Jesus died on was more than likely a tree where He would have been able to see those who passed by eye to eye.  This was a new, impactful insight for me and standing in a garden outside the home where we were visiting, looking at a tree likened to one used for crucifixions, the Lord wrote this song on my heart.

“Eye to Eye” Laura Christy 11-3-2007

Willingly, You hung exposed

Obedient to Your Father

Finally – “It is done”…sacrifice like no other

(Chorus)

Eye to eye I see Your mercy

Eye to eye I know Your grace

As I come to You at Calvary

Eye to eye in Your embrace

When my sin obstructs the view

Your Spirit draws my heart to You

Falling on my knees in confession…I see You!

(Bridge)

You are my King

You are my Hope

You are my Life…and I see You!

Has the Lord opened your eye of faith to see this undeserved gift of eternal life?  If so, give Him a shout of praise and continue to surrender to a life of righteousness, dying to sin daily!  If you have not yet seen Calvary in view of His mercy and grace, look again and listen for His call to repent and believe in Jesus.
